PAMEA March Update
Subject: PAMEA March 2018 Update
To: All members
Dear Colleagues,
It is with a bit of excitement but also trepidation I write to all of you today.
At our latest AGM in February our long standing and very dedicated President Bob Rorison stepped into the role of Past President of PAMEA. Bob has served PAMEA almost since its inception many years ago, I would like to thank Bob for his service to our association. I for one am very appreciative of all the work that Bob has carried out – it is very possible that PAMEA would not exist today but for Bob.
As the new President, a responsibility which I have agreed to take on, with a bit of apprehension but also with the knowledge that as a group; AME’s are a dedicated, passionate, and tenacious group of Professionals who deserve to be represented by a Professional organization that understands the challenges that exist in our industry. Aviation as an industry has transformed the world within the last 100 years and we have been a proud part of that transformation. Every aviation professional that I know has been party countless changes in technology as well as the occasional corporate shift.
As an organization we have been adapting to the changes, for instance, we have shifted from holding the big PAMEA convention each year to getting out and putting on one day professional development workshops at your locations. As with any change, some think it is great and yes we do have one or two who want the big expensive symposium back. Unfortunately, the symposium is not a viable option.
As the new President and on behalf of the executive we would like to hear from you – let us know what direction you would like us to take your professional organization. We represent your interests and we want you to help guide our mission. To that end I welcome any emails, phone calls, or text messages.
Some areas which we are working on; we are a rapidly aging group which needs to look at bringing in new younger members. To that end we are starting a social media audit to explore ideas for reaching a younger group. On another front, we are working on joint initiatives with other like minded industry groups. For Instance, Peter Chick our new PAMEA secretary, and I were at a CCAA sponsored workshop on Monday March 12 where we represented PAMEA. I also have been involved in the AIAC Pacific aviation / aerospace labour market study where we have been exploring the challenges that employers have been encountering in getting skilled aviation employee’s. We were also involved with the Province in developing new materials about aviation careers to send out to high school students. As an organization we are looking at a future where we can continue to represent your interests and express your concerns. Without PAMEA and CFAME your interests and your voice will not be heard. But for our organization to survive and grow we need to be seen as being relevant to you the membership. Help us to be the organization that we can be – lets work together to (I hate to say it) make PAMEA great again.
In closing we look forward to hearing from you and we look forward to seeing you at the April 11 PAMEA workshop at Boundary Bay.
Respectfully,
Rod Hayward
Incoming PAMEA President
