Michael Huerta Confirmed as New Administrator
            On January 1, 2013, the United States Senate unanimously confirmed the nomination of Michael Huerta for a 5-year term as FAA Administrator. Huerta became the FAA’s Deputy Administrator in July 2010, and assumed the Acting Administrator role on Dec. 5, 2011. During his Senate confirmation hearing, Huerta outlined his goals to ensure the continued success of the agency: making the safest aviation system in the world even safer and smarter; realizing even more benefits from NextGen today; and empowering 48,000 FAA employees to embrace innovation and work more efficiently.

Sport Aviation Expo Set to Start New Flying Year
            The U.S. Sport Aviation Expo is poised to kick off the 2013 flying year with four days of exciting workshops, forums, and guest speakers. The event, now in its ninth year, begins on Jan. 17, 2013, at the Sebring Regional Airport (KSEF) in Sebring, Fla. Special events for this year include a seaplane base, an aircraft auction, and twilight airshows. The Expo will also feature guest speaker appearances by former FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt and aerobatic champion Patty Wagstaff. For more information, go to http://www.sport-aviation-expo.com/.

New FAA Safety Briefing Spotlights Aerospace Medicine
            The new January/February 2013 issue of FAA Safety Briefing focuses on the world of aerospace medicine. Articles cover key issues that affect medical certification for pilots, discuss the pilot’s role in this process, and explain the FAA’s responsibilities.
